Formed in 1999 by Nick Arlea and Greg Ort, Autoerotica recorded their first album, “A Cardiac Monster” that same year with guitar virtuoso Greg Howe (Michael Jackson, N’sync/Justin Timberlake, Enrique Iglesias, Shrapnel Records) as producer. Some personnel changes after the album’s release lead them to team up with Jarrett Maier on bass guitar which solidified the creative core of the band. With it’s new found cohesiveness, the band hit the road in support of the album. Playing clubs throughout NJ & PA. They opened for acts such as Great White, Dokken, Tesla, and Saigon Kick.
Autoerotica returned to the studio in late 2000 to record a four song EP ,this time with producer Scott Metaxas (Prophet, Nuclear Assault) while continuing to play out, extending their reach into NY clubs opening for bands like Kix and T.T. Quick. Critical acclaim from local media and radio (WZZO 95.1 Allentown/ Bethlehem, WDHA 105.5 Dover, WSOU 89.5 Seton Hall’s “Pirate Radio”) helped build the band’s following.
In 2001 Autoerotica was back in the studio with Scott Metaxas. On board this time was guitar and drum engineer, Paul Crook (Anthrax, Sebastian Bach; currently with Meatloaf). Another four song EP came out of these sessions. This batch of music caught the ear, and praise , of acclaimed producer Michael Wagener (Ozzy Osbourne, Motley Crue, Skid Row, Metallica,etc.). These songs also sparked the interest of Lava/Atlantic Records, TVT Records, and Roadrunner Records.
Through most of 2002, Autoerotica continued playing the Tri-State Area ending the year witha gig at B.B. King’s in NYC, opening for Stephen Pearcy of Ratt and hosted by Eddie Trunk. At the end of 2002 the band decided to take a hiatus to pursue families and side projects, playing together occasionally when able.
In 2010 Arlea, Ort, & Maier decided to start writing again, finding a new vigor in their music propelled by maturity and life experience. In 2011 Autoerotica recruited John Cree as their new drummer. Having played with Arlea & Ort in other projects, he adds to the solidity of the band.
A full album of material has been compiled and Autoerotica has reached out to Michael Wagener who has expressed his interest in working with the band. To be continued.
